Herald achieves Gold Medalist ranking from Columbia

The College Heights Herald was ranked a Gold Medalist and All Columbian publication in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s annual competition.

The ranking was for the 2013-14 academic year. The editors-in-chief during the contest period were Michael McKay (Fall 2013) and Joanna Williams (Spring 2014).

The Herald competed as a college hybrid news organization, meaning an operation that publishes in both print and digital formats. The newspaper is published Tuesdays and Thursdays during the academic year, while the website (wkuherald.com) and the WKUHerald mobile apps are updated continuously.

In the judging, the Herald scored 956 out of a possible 1,000 points. It was rated:

— 190 out of 200 points for essential elements.

— 392 out of 400 points for verbal performance.

— 374 out of 400 points for visual performance.

The Gold Medalist Award and All-Columbian honors will be presented by Columbia University at the Spring College Media Convention in New York City March 13.
