The 10th issue of Talisman Magazine has arrived, and it’s terrific.
Talisman 10: Voice is the second digital magazine the staff of the Talisman has produced. Because of WKU budget cuts, a printed magazine was not possible in 2020-21, so magazine staffers came up with plans to produce two digital magazines.
In the process, they’ve grown skills that will serve them well once they leave WKU Student Publications.
While the Spring 2021 magazine is not in printed form, it still includes the long-form storytelling, deep reporting, strong writing, exceptional photography and beautiful design that have long been hallmarks of Talisman, anchoring it among the very best student-run magazines nationwide.
When Talisman made the conversion from a yearbook to a life and culture magazine, starting in Fall 2016, the printed magazine and its partner website, WKUTalisman.com, were envisioned as distinct publications — partners in their eclectic approach to life on the Hill, but unique in how each format records that life.
That has been maintained, with the website thriving at WKUTalisman.com and the magazine now living at magazine.WKUTalisman.com.
While the intention is to return Talisman to a print format in 2021-22, if WKU’s temporary budget cuts related to the coronavirus pandemic are restored, a strong digital presence for the magazine is likely something that student leaders will want to maintain and build.
So give Talisman Magazine, Issue 10: Voice, a read. I think you’ll enjoy it!
