Jake McMahon, a senior from Louisville, was the unanimous choice to serve a second semester as editor-in-chief of the College Heights Herald at the Student Publications Committee’s fall meeting earlier this month.
McMahon, a journalism major and broadcasting minor, served as Herald editor in Fall 2025 and previous was sports editor.
During his tenure in the corner office, the Herald has reinvigorated its reporting, both in depth and breadth. The newsroom has published an exceptional investigation into poor engineering and construction that led WKU to shutter its three newest dorms, one of which must be torn down. The newsroom also has broadened the variety of stories it covers across campus, capturing a more nuanced story of life on the Hill.
In addition, the Herald under McMahon’s leadership this semester launched College Heights Herald in Español, translating major stories into Spanish and covering original news for Bowling Green’s Hispanic Community; revived and expanded several podcasts, including incorporating video; and greatly expanded its presence and audience interaction on social media.
