I am thrilled to report that WKU Student Publications won three national Pacemaker awards at the Associated Collegiate Press ceremony Thursday night at the National College Media Virtual Convention:
- MAGAZINE: Talisman
- ONLINE: College Heights Herald/ WKUHerald.com
- INNOVATION: Cherry Creative, the first time the Innovation Pacemaker has been awarded.
Congratulations to Olivia Mohr, editor of Talisman in 2019-20; Jeremy Chisenhall and Rebekah Alvey, editors of the Herald in 2019-20; and Hayley Robb, director of Cherry Creative in 2019-20. And, of course, to their talented staffs of students as well as to Carrie Pratt, adviser to the Herald, and Sam Oldenburg, adviser to Talisman and Cherry Creative.
WKU Student Publications had five Pacemaker finalists, the most of any school or program in the nation, and the largest number of Pacemaker finalists we have ever posted in a single year. Aside from the above winners, our finalists included the College Heights Herald for the Newspaper Pacemaker and WKUTalisman.com for the Online Pacemaker.
The Pacemakers are the most prestigious awards given to a student-run media operation. We now have a total of 40 Pacemakers — 21 for Talisman, 18 for the Herald and 1 for Cherry Creative.
