Herald story on dorms goes viral

The College Heights Herald story on what went wrong with WKU’s three newest dorms went viral — both on campus and on the web.

The Herald’s print edition — the first enterprise newsmagazine of the semester — went quickly. It arrived from the printer late Friday, and we started distributing it on campus that day to capture interest from WKU’s Parent & Family Weekend.

It was a major draw.

On Monday, we started hand distribution and the magazine was in high demand. Virtually all copies were taken, leaving us with very few to distribute in the Bowling Green community.

Because of the demand, the story was posted on WKUHerald.com on Monday. The students usually hold back posting magazine stories for several days to ensure the print product has stories that make it worth picking up.

Traffic on social media exploded.

The students prepared a short video version of the story, which was posted on the @WKUHerald accounts on Instagram and TikTok. The TikTok story had nearly 169,000 views as of Thursday morning. The Instagram version had been watched 75,000 times.
