Student journalists from seven of the eight public universities across Kentucky are finalists for the Associated Collegiate Press Innovation Pacemaker for 2024.
In the project, led by the College Heights Herald at WKU, the editorial boards of the independent student news organizations spoke with one voice about the importance of diversity on college campuses in the Commonwealth and the danger of efforts by the Kentucky General Assembly to kill those programs.
In addition to the Herald, the project included the Eastern Progress at Eastern Kentucky University, the Murray State News at Murray State University, The Louisville Cardinal at the University of Louisville, The Northerner at Northern Kentucky University, the Thorobred News at Kentucky State University, and the Kentucky Kernel at the University of Kentucky.

The Pacemaker is the top honor in collegiate journalism and being a finalist is an incredible honor. Pacemaker winners will be announced in November at the National College Media Convention.
The College Heights Herald won the Innovation Pacemaker in 2023 along with Ball State University for the City of Nations project, looking at Bowling Green’s refugee community.
Since winning its first Pacemaker in 1981, the Herald has won 23 Pacemaker Awards, along with 22 for the Talisman, one for Cherry Creative and one for Cherry and Student Publications Advertising. All together, WKU Student Publications has won 47 Pacemaker Awards.
