Brandon Carter, editor-in-chief of the College Heights Herald in 2016, has left The Washington Post for The New York Times.
Brandon, who has been a frequent visitor helping at Student Publications training sessions and hosting students on visits to Washington, D.C., will become audience editor the The Times Opinion team, and will be based in Washington.
For the past 2 1/2 years, Brandon has been manager of the newsroom’s social media team at The Post. Before that, he worked for the NPR politics desk and The Hill.
“Never in a million years could I have imagined that a kid from rural Kentucky could end up at the newspaper of record,” Brandon said. “I can’t believe it; I’m so excited to get to work.”
At The Times, Brandon will join several WKU Student Pubs alumni, including Metro Editor Nikita Stewart, Standards Editor Susan Wessling Mattingly, photo editors Tanner Curtis and Lance Booth, and Katie Honadle in human resources.
Brandon also presented a packed session on social media last week at MediaFest25, the National College Media Convention, in Washington, where I snapped this photo from way in the back of the room.
