Alumni update 2024: Student Pubs marks a century of excellence

WKU Student Publications will mark the Centennial of the Talisman and the College Heights Herald during the 2024-25 school year.

Our main event, the Centennial Weekend, is scheduled for April 25-26, 2025, with a panel discussion and reception Friday evening at the Adams-Whitaker Student Publications Center on Normal Street, and then a Centennial luncheon with special guests on Saturday.

We’ll let you know details as soon as we have everything nailed down, but you might want to go ahead and make hotel reservations.

The Holiday Inn University Plaza offers a WKU rate of about $100 a night that will be honored for the event. Other good options are the Hyatt Place on campus, Staybridge Suites at South Campus, the Hilton Garden Inn and Courtyard Marriott on Wilkinson Trace and the Embassy Suites on Lover’s Lane.

The 73rd Student Publications Homecoming Breakfast, set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, also will carry a Centennial theme. But because the football game kicks off at 11 a.m. — and because Homecoming is so crowded with events we all want to participate in — the breakfast will be a quick affair.

We’ll have two smaller Centennial commemorations:

  • Talisman 100th anniversary, which we’ve set for Thursday, Sept. 5, where we’ll mark a century of capturing life on the Hill, both as a yearbook and as a life and culture magazine.
  • College Heights Herald 100th Birthday Party on Jan. 29. 2025, where we’ll toast a century of news coverage by the Herald.
