Student Publications lost two exceptional professional staff members in the past year — Tracy Newton, our longtime office associate, and Sam Oldenburg, a former student who was assistant director and Talisman and Cherry Creative adviser since 2017.
Tracy, along with her husband and Herald alumnus Tommy Newton, accepted WKU’s Voluntary Separation Incentive Program and retired early, Tracy at the end of November and Tommy at the end of March.
Sam, meantime, announced in June that he was going home to Minnesota to become the marketing and operations adviser at The Minnesota Daily, the student news organization at the University of Minnesota.
Both departures leave enormous holes, both for our students and for their colleagues.
While Tracy’s position was eliminated under the VSIP program, we are searching for the ideal person to step into the role of Talisman and Cherry Creative adviser. We hope to post that job opening soon.
