Today is Giving Tuesday, and it’s a great day to help the students at WKU Student Publications. It’s a great day to support student journalism.
Our students are doing excellent work. They brought home two more national Pacemaker Awards this fall, for quality work across all platforms and for innovation, bringing to 21 the number of Pacemakers WKU students have won since 2010. That is consistently outstanding work.
Let’s compare that to other student media in Kentucky: During the same time span, the University of Kentucky’s student media have won three Pacemakers, and Eastern Kentucky and Murray State have won one each.
Our students are doing important work acting as watchdogs on the powerful at WKU, and documenting life and what makes this Hill special. Day in and day out, year in and year out, our students do exceptional journalism.
But the students on the College Heights Herald, the Talisman, Student Publications Advertising and Cherry Creative cannot do this without your support. We all know the challenges of generating revenue through advertising sales, and university budgets have been cut significantly over the past decade.
We can do this work because you, our alumni and friends, step up. Your charitable contributions are significant, and we appreciate every penny you donate.
So we ask: Will you please show your support for student journalism at WKU by making a donation today, Giving Tuesday.
You can support the Student Publications Legacy Fund, our most flexible fund, here.
You can support the Student Publications Endowed Fund, for our long-term health, here.
And you can support the Student Publications Fellowship Fund, which places students in professional settings each summer, here.
Thank you for considering us on Giving Tuesday.
